USA’s U-20 captain, Freddy Adu, is close to signing with Benfica for $1.3 million, according to Portuguese media reports on Saturday.
He is currently playing for Real Salt Lake, and so far Adu has one goal and two assists in 11 games this season. Real Salt Lake coach Jason Kreis acknowledged he does not expect Adu to return to the club. This is certainly a scenario that does not surprise us, and we would like to thank Freddy for his time here and wish him the best of luck,” Kreis said.
A native of Ghana, the 18-year-old has been previously linked to several of Europe’s top soccer clubs, including Chelsea and powerhouse Real Madrid. But now we are expecting that he will sign a 5-year deal with one of the top teams in Portugal.
