Copa America Semi-Finals. Carragher to retire? Real ready to place bid on Fabregas?

The Copa America winds down to the final with only four teams left – Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay, and Argentina. Today Brazil face Uruguay and tomorrow Mexico versus Argentina. These were the teams that many would have predicted for the semi-finals. Argentina blew past Peru with a 4-0 win with goals from Messi, Mascherano, and a brace from Riquelme. Mexico dominated Paraguay 6-0 with goals from Torrado, Blanco, Bravo, Arce, and two goals for Castillo. Brazil also cruised into the semis with a 6-1 win over Chile with a brace from Robinho and goals from Juan, Baptista, Josue, and Vagner Love. Uruguay continued to the semis with a 4-1 win over hosts Venezuela with a double from Forlan and goals from Pablo Garcia and Rodriguez. Overall the 2007 Copa America showcased some great talent and a different style of play that what is seen in Europe.

Jamie Carragher has announced that he is considering retirement after failing to make McClaren’s starting eleven. Critics have hit out at the 29-year-old defender for not fighting for the starting position on the England squad. On August 22, England face Germany in a friendly and on September 8 they face Israel in Euro 2008 qualifying.

Real Madrid are ready to make inquiries about the avaliability of Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas. The La Liga champions will try to lure the 20-year-old with a bid that could be close to £27 million. Real will also bring Jose Antonio Reyes, who was on loan with Arsenal, back to Madrid. Fabregas will want to stay with Arsene Wenger, however the manager has yet to renew his contract which is set to expire after next season. The thought of being with the North-London club without his mentor is unsettling and Fabregas would opt for a move.
